This action RPG features: - Rich hand painted backgrounds. - Environments that make use of the NDS stylus. - Control Goemon Impact via remote. - Mini games. Developer: Konami Release Date: 23rd June 2005 Price: 4980 Yen ==================== 2.0 Controls & Menus ==================== Select: Change Characters Start: Pause R: Select Item L: Select Weapon Y: Attack X: Use Item B: Jump A: Confirm, Talk D-Pad: Navigate Pausing the game will give you a row of five options: Controls, Items, Map, Save and Title. Use the L/R buttons to scroll through the list. Save - Save the game at the point where you entered the area. Title - Return to the title screen. ================= 3.0 Goemon Impact ================= In the course of the game, you will also get to play with the giant robot Goemon Impact. When this happens, you control its movements via a remote on the touch screen of the NDS. The grid will consist of the following commands: +-----------------------------------------------+ | | | | |Left Punch| Nasal Kobans | Right Punch| | | | | +---------------+---------------+---------------+ | | | | |Move Left | Self-Destruct| Move Right | | | | | +---------------+---------------+---------------+ | | | | | Guard | Special | Lift | | | | | +---------------+---------------+---------------+ There will also be a reception meter and a life bar at the top of the grid. Moving out of range from the Goemon Impact means you won't be able to control it since you're using a remote. If you press the Self-Destruct button by accident, you'll have a limited amount of time to quickly press the L and R buttons to cancel it. A Special can only be performed by filling up the bar at the bottom of the grid. This can be done by hitting your opponent with punches. Now and then, a mail icon will popup to give you hints or some random message. During the battles, you can also control your character as you usually would when not using the robot. This means you can move him/her left and right using the D-Pad or jump so that you can avoid enemies. You can also use your character to collect the odd item the enemies carry onto the screen that may help you with the robot fight. ============================= 4.0 Village Services & Travel ============================= In each of the villages you visit there will be many services available to replenish your health or buy items to help you in your fights. To use these services or buy items, you need to collect the old Japanese currency of Ryos by killing enemies. Enemies drop three types of money; coins worth 1 Ryo, gold pieces worth 5 Ryo and boxes containing 10 Ryo. Everytime you you dispensable ammo such as bombs, when using the bazooka or Shurikens, you'll lose a small amount of Ryo too so having good reserve of money is always a good idea. Beware of the Ninja carrying a huge green baggage in the villages as he steals money from you. If he does manage to steal money from you, all you have to do is hit him to get it back. Just be sure not to hit any of the villagers or the officials will be after you! In all the main villages, there are 3 places where you can spend your Ryos. The shop, lodge and restaurant. Every village will have its own items and food to offer at various prices. There is also sometimes a hot bath house for you to use. While food at the restaurant takes instant effect, items bought at the shop are stored with your character and can be selected using the L button. Then all you have to do is press X to use it. Note that you can't dine when your health is full. Lodges will always offer 3 different rooms for you to choose from, descending from the cheapest to the highest quality room. Try out each one to see the difference in styles (look at the state of the 3rd class room!) Again, your health is replenished instantly just like eating at the restaurant. Below you'll find a list of the items and food each town sells. You may not have to use any of the services to replenish your health at all since the enemies sometimes drop various food too but, it's fun looking at the rooms the lodges have and the sort of food you can eat. You can travel between each of these towns easily by talking to a man smoking a pipe. He runs the old Japanese transport service, the Kago. Literally a basket in which the rich were carried on in the feudal age. The destinations you can choose from are in the order of... Edo <=> Kanakawa <=> Yui <=> Ejiri <=> Mitsuke <=> Fujikawa <=> Capital He's usually near the village entrance and don't worry, the rides are free! --------------------------------------------------------------------+ Location | Item Name | Price | Effect | ------------+---------------+---------+-----------------------------+ EDO Shop: | Riceball | 30 Ryo | Recover 1 heart. | |Ume Riceball | 100 Ryo | Recover 3 hearts. | | Mino | 20 Ryo | Neautralize 1 enemy hit.| Restaurant: | Mori Soba | 8 Ryo | Recover 1 heart. | | Ten Soba | 12 Ryo | Recover 2 hearts. | | Edomae Sushi | 16 Ryo | Recover 3 hearts. | ------------+---------------+---------+-----------------------------+ KANAKAWA Shop: | Riceball | 30 Ryo | Recover 1 heart. | |Bronze Armour| 45 Ryo | Neautralize 2 enemy hits.| | Lucky Bag | 100 Ryo | Extra life. | Restaurant: | Momo Buns | 10 Ryo | Recover 1 heart. | | Ramen | 15 Ryo | Recover 2 hearts. | | Shark Fin | 20 Ryo | Recover 3 hearts. | ------------+---------------+---------+-----------------------------+ | | | | YUI | | | | | | | | Shop: | Ume Riceball | 100 Ryo | Recover 3 hearts. | | Mino | 20 Ryo | Neautralize 1 enemy hit. | | Bronze Armour | 45 Ryo | Neautralize 2 enemy hits. | | | | | Restaurant: | Isobe Yaki | 11 Ryo | Recover 1 heart. | | Tea Soba | 18 Ryo | Recover 2 hearts. | | Eel | 22 Ryo | Recover 3 hearts. | | | | | ------------+---------------+---------+-----------------------------+ | | | | EJIRI | | | | | | | | Shop: | Ume Riceball | 100 Ryo | Recover 3 hearts. | | Iron Armour | 70 Ryo | Neautralize 3 enemy hits. | | Lucky Bag | 100 Ryo | Extra life. | | | | | Restaurant: | Abekawa Mochi | 12 Ryo | Recover 1 heart. | | Rice with Tea | 20 Ryo | Recover 2 hearts. | | Peppered Duck | 26 Ryo | Recover 3 hearts. | | | | | ------------+---------------+---------+-----------------------------+ | | | | MITSUKE | | | | | | | | Shop: | Ume Riceball | 100 Ryo | Recover 3 hearts. | | Salm Riceball | 200 Ryo | Recover all hearts. | | Silver Armour | 95 Ryo | Neautralize 4 enemy hits. | | | | | Restaurant: | Warabi Mochi | 15 Ryo | Recover 1 heart. | | Denraku | 22 Ryo | Recover 2 hearts. | | Pike Special | 30 Ryo | Recover 3 hearts. | | | | | ------------+---------------+---------+-----------------------------+ | | | | FUJIKAWA | | | | | | | | Shop: | Salm Riceball | 220 Ryo | Recover all hearts. | | Gold Armour | 120 Ryo | Neautralize 5 enemy hits. | | Lucky Bag | 110 Ryo | Extra life. | | | | | Restaurant: | Uirou | 18 Ryo | Recover 1 heart. | | Kishi Noodles | 26 Ryo | Recover 2 hearts. | | Misokatsu | 35 Ryo | Recover 3 hearts. | | | | | ------------+---------------+---------+-----------------------------+ | | | | CAPITAL | | | | | | | | Shop: | Riceball | 40 Ryo | Recover 1 heart. | | Ume Riceball | 120 Ryo | Recover 3 hearts. | | Silver Armour | 100 Ryo | Neautralize 4 enemy hits. | | | | | Restaurant: | Fried Octopus | 20 Ryo | Recover 1 heart. | | Pike Nabe | 30 Ryo | Recover 2 hearts. | | Tessa | 40 Ryo | Recover 3 hearts. | | | | | ------------+---------------+---------+-----------------------------+ ============== 5.0 Characters ============== GOEMON ------ A chilvarous thief of justice who was born and raised in Edo (old Tokyo). Just then the door slid open noisily and at the doorway, stood the town's idol Ommichan. She was out of breathe and looked as if she was in a hurry. She tells them about the wanted leaflets that were being distributed in town and held one out to them. It had a picture of both Goemon and Ebisumaru. Goemon was in disbelief. They hadn't done anything bad. He urges Ebisumaru to hurry with him to the magistrate to set things right. But just as they were about to leave, the local officials rush into the house and arrest them. They are brought to the magistrate. Witnesses saw Goemon and Ebisumaru robbing a rich family's home under and so, sends them both to the cells. Still confused about why they were arrested, Goemon and Ebisumaru sit in their cells. Just then, a hole gets blown in their cell and Yae appears. It was time to escape and prove their innocence. - Move Goemon to the middle of the rope then using the stylus, pull the rope back to propel him upwards. Jump towards the right edge of rock. - Head right and into the only open doorway opposite the boat. You learn that there was a note left at the temple by the real thieves saying that they're going to steal the temple treasure. Here's a chance to catch the real criminals. - Equip the new Tengu mask by holding R then pressing right. Now the officials don't recognise you. - Leave and talk to the boat owner. Answer yes to go to the temple. *Temple - Go right and use the stylus to ring the bell to find the buddhist. - After Suzu breaks the seal, make your way through the temple and use your stylus on the stalactite and mask. - Once you reach the eye boss, all you have to do is destroy all the mini flying eyes that appear. Afterwards, break down the shaking doors where the main eye is hiding behind. Stand right in front of the eye and keep hitting the attack button until it's dead. - Go up through the burial grounds to find imposters of Goemon and Ebisumaru. - The imposters, Mr. Goemon runs away after hearing an eerie voice. A candle monster appears, unhappy that people are disturbing his home. - BOSS: Candle Demon Hit the monster while dodging his green flames. Every so often he'll shoot circles out to mark out the spots were random flames will fall from the air. *Village - Suzu from the temple tells the magistrate what happened at the temple and our two heroes are no longer convicted. Now they must catch the imposters to clear their name. Head on out of the village by heading right. - Outside you meet Tokutaro who's heading to the capital to become an apprentice of a famous artist. He hands over the Power Glove he found outside Goemon's house. An item that can help move heavy objects. And so, in order to clear their name, Goemon and Ebisumaru sets out together to find the mysterious imposters and to retrieve the temple treasure. Chance to record your progress: Yes / No - 6.2 +------------------------+ | | | Chapter 2 | | | | Infiltration | | The Tengu Teachings | | | +------------------------+ - Head down the map to find 2 men sitting by a tree. You learn that a few men rushed past them earlier towards town carrying something. - Exit to the SE and go up the rocks. Equip your Power Glove by holding L and using the direction keys. Hold the attack key and pull out a block. Jump up to find a big suspicious, broadcasting tower. - Goemon has a bad feeling but decides to move on. Head on right into Kanakawa. *Kanakawa - Equip your Tengu Mask if you haven't already done so. Without it, you can't talk to the people with masks on. - Go up the slope and speak to the guard in black standing beside a man in brown. He says you need a pot to prove you're a member of the Tengu organisation. - Go to the NE point of the village where another guard stands blocking a path. Talk to him with your mask still on to let you through. - Follow the path until you see a fat lady holding a pot outside a cave. It appears they don't like the Tengu believers so unequip your mask and go inside the house nearby. - Looks like they're out of pots and you have to make one yourself. Touch the sides of the block of spinning clay to create the vase shown on the top screen. If you need to start again, touch the bottom left green button. Once you're done, touch the red button to the bottom left. You have to finish the pot before the rope is burned out. *Tengu Division - Return to the guard that asked you for a pot and enter. Go through the NE doors then touch the statue's nose until the mouth opens up. Go down to find Monoshiri Jijii. - You learn he got captured by the Tengu after he went out to investigate some strange waves that were interfering with his work. It seems the Tengu is using some kind of waves to control the villagers. Goemon remembers the tower they went past earlier and thinks it maybe the source of the waves. But they'll need Goemon Impact to help them destroy it. Unfortunately, Monoshiri dropped the control for it in the caves. *Kanakawa - Go to the NE point of the village where a guard stands blocking a path, opposite a pair of blue masks. Talk to the guard to let you pass. *Execution Area - Go into the execution area and make your way NE through the area with more heavy blocks. - Along the way, you meet Sasuke. He's looking for his missing master, Monoshiri. When Goemon tells him that they're looking for Goemon Impact's controller to help bust him out, Sasuke tags along. He tells them that there's a boulder blocking the entrance so they need to blow it open. - Go up then change to Sasuke using the Select button. Equip the fireworks and attack the boulder. *Cave - Go inside to retrieve the controller at the top and then return to Kanakawa. *Kanakawa - Leave the village through the SW and Goemon Impact will be summoned. Save (Yes/No) and have fun experimenting with the big robot. Just DON'T press the centre button because that activates the self-destruct sequence! Also be sure to be in range of the robot or you won't be able to control it. Watch out for rolling logs etc. - After destroying the towers, head back to where Monoshiri is. He'll tell you about how someone destroyed a nearby bridge that leads to Hodoka Valley. Fortunately he's attached one of his inventions to Sasuke that'll help. *Execution Area - Go back to the execution area and this time instead of going NE towards the caves, change to Sasuke, equip the balloons and jump to the SE exit. Continue on through the next area until you get to the valley with the enemies in white hoods sitting about. *Hodoka Valley - Go inside then drop down the hole in the floor for a boss fight. All you have to do is hit and run while taking care of the helpers he summons. Don't go near him when he jumps up and lands. The burst of air will hurt you. - To their disappointment, the Mr. Goemon imposters weren't about. Learning that Yae was following up the Tengu case and that her hometown Yui was in trouble, they head west. Chance to record your progress: Yes / No - 6.3 +----------------------+ | | | Chapter 3 | | | | The Captured Sister | | | +----------------------+ - Make your way through the area and blow up the grey block to move the boulder. - Once you reach the gates, you learn you need a pass to get through. Someone sells it nearby but only to the Tengu. Exit through the SE. - Put on your Tengu mask and go inside. Make sure you have 50 Ryo. If not go kill some things. - Return to the gates and talk to the man to get through. Just as you're about to pass, Goemon hears Dokutaro's voice. Looks like he needs a pass too but doesn't have the money so you'll have to help the little boy out. - Go back to the man to get another pass for Dokutaro. - Dokutaro gives you a green pouch as thanks, increasing your maximum Ryo capacity to 300. - Continue passing through the gates and Ebisumaru will stop because he smells something good cooking. He runs off and finds the imposters about to have lunch. Ebisumaru eats it all and inflates into a giant ball. The imposters disappear and Goemon has to roll Ebisumaru to the nearest village to see the doctor. - If you enter the hut in the SW, 2 elderly folk will try to eat Ebisumaru thinking he's a big juicy pig... If you lose Ebisu then, this is where you'll find him back at. - Roll Ebisu all the way to the next village, Yui. This is fairly hard keeping him balanced on land and not letting him fall into the water so, my advice is to save everytime you get Ebisu into a new area. Then if you do drop him, all you have to do is reload the saved file from the title screen instead of starting from the hut again. - Once you get Ebisu near the village of Yui, you'll find a doctor outside. You learn that he's hear to buy some medical material to heal people but, security around the village has been heightened because the chief has been kidnapped. Now the doctor can't get in to get the materials he needs. He promises to heal Ebisu if Goemon can get him the materials. - Go south to the gates of Yui and you'll find only villagers of Yui may enter. - Return to the area with the little hut and climb the steps to the east to get to the next area with the canons. Drop down the ledge to the SE and make your way east to find Yae. She needs help getting into the fortress. Goemon agrees to help but tells her that they need to heal Ebisu first and so Yae goes off to tell the guards to let the doctor in. - Return to the village to find Ebisu healed. Now go into the village to meet the village elder to find out what's going on. *Yui Village - You learn the kidnappers are holding the village chief, Yae's sister, captive so that they can get their hands on the village's treasured Katana. It seems they maybe after the 3 Weapons of the Heavens that grants great power if gathered. One of them is the mirror from the temple, but it appears the current kidnappers don't know that the village's Katana isn't one of them. The elder is worried that whoever is behind it all may be up to some evil. - Yae returns to report to her elder that the fortress walls seems impenetrable. So he comes up with an idea to get Ebisu trained. Exit the area and enter the training house to the right of the man in brown to get Ebisu trained up. *Fortress - Return to the the fortress and go back to where you met Yae. Change to Ebisu and use his new move Bali Drill to dig into the ground. Then you get the chance to save (Yes/No). - Go through the fortress making use of the stylus controlled swings and propelling platforms. You'll also get to spinning plates where you'll have to spin it as fast as possible so that you can jump onto it. Once you pass the plates, you'll find the village chief, Yae's sister. - BOSS: Tengu Berli He summons a big monster to do the fighting for him. This is a fairly easy battle if you use Yae and equip her with her bazooka. You can only damage the boss when he puts on a smiley face. - After the boss fight, you will summon your Goemon Impact again to fight a sumo robot named Daichanko. - Having rescued Yae's sister, you learn that she overheard the Mr Goemon's conversation about their next target. The village of celebrations, Ejiri where another of the Weapons of the Heavens are held. Chance to record your progress: Yes / No - 6.4 +-------------------------------------+ | Chapter 4 | | | | The Monster of the Festive Village | | | +-------------------------------------+ - Make your way to the village and then once you enter, go south to find a suspicious man with a mask on. - Go back to the first area and enter the house that has someone dressed in green standing outside. You'll speak to the village elder who says their Hyottoko performers have been kidnapped and needs Goemon's help. Otherwise the festivals can't go on. - Head back to the area where you saw the suspicious man so that you can try and speak with the family involved. But the man won't speak to Goemon and his friends thinking that they're back to kidnap more people. To prove they're trustworthy, you have to find and rescue his 3 younger brothers. - Exit the village via the west. You'll pass by a bridge where you can watch the festival fireworks. You can touch them to make them explode. Touching 3 of the same colour will get a little coin and a big display of fireworks. - Make your way out the SW end of the village and follow the map SW pass the area with two stylus controllable platforms. You'll get to a spot with lots of insects blocking your way. Wiggle your stylus on them and they'll move. *Kanaya - Arriving at a run down village, enter the house in the NW corner of the map to find the Mr. Goemon Trio. You learn their Goemon imposter's been working for Tengu Berli because he promised he would help them rebuild their village. But after obtaining the treasures, he refused to hand them over so he's been taken away by Peruri. - You now have to continue your search for the 3 Hyottoko brothers as they seem to be the key to Peruri's plan this time round. Before you leave, the fake Sasuke gives Yae a carp suit that'll help her swim in deep waters. She doesn't like it very much. - For the first Hyottoko, head out of the village then go east to the water. Change to Yae and use her new Mermaid Art. Swim over to the east to find an old man. Talk to him and he'll ask you to scratch his back so use the stylus to scratch it for him. After he disappears, use Ebisu with his Bali Drill on the spot where the old man was sitting to find the first Hyottoko. - Now return to dark area where there's lantern monsters sticking their tongue at you outside Eijiri. Exit through the north and navigate through the map to the next area in the SW with Yae. Make your your way upwards to find the second Hyottoko. You'll find him in a cave at the end of a rope near the top. Once you find him, you can make a quick exit by jumping back down. - Go back to the dark area and jump into the river using Yae. Swim down to find the last Hyottoko then return to Eijiri to speak with their brother. The door will now be open. *Ejiri - After thanking everyone, the oldest Hyottoko tells Goemon about their family treasure, the Yagura. To get inside it, the brothers have to perform a dance. It seems Peruri tied up the Mr. Goemon inside. - Head back across the fireworks bridge then go to the NW area where the big striped Yagura is. Inside you'll find Peruri and Mr. Goemon. You learn that Mr. Goemon really knows nothing about the 3 Weapons of the Heavens but, Peruri does and intends to get them all. Now he's taken the mirror. - BOSS: Demonic Paper Lantern He'll start off with two sets of lanterns. The first set will fire cannon balls and the second set shoots fireballs that travel in a straight line. Destroy all his lanterns and he'll start floating about and bombing you. Continue hitting him and he eventually start leaping about. Finally, finish him off by destroying his head. - After rescuing Mr. Goemon, Goemon decides to continue going after Peruri despite being able to clear his name now. Mr. Goemon heard he was going to go after the Katana next in the battlegrounds of Maisaka. And so, turning their backs towards the festive celebrations, our heroes continue their journey of fate. Chance to record your progress: Yes / No - 6.5 +-------------------------------+ | | | Chapter 5 | | | | The Village of Yamatai and | | The Head of Masakado | | | +-------------------------------+ - Make your way NE to get to the village of Mitsuke (notice the Dust Bunnies from Ghibli's movie Totoro near the boat). Exit through the south in the next area pass the fishing boats. - Navigate through the area to find a block that you can move. Pull it towards the cliff in the NW corner ad jump up it to get to Maisaka, an area full of skeletons and mist. *Maisaka - You meet the spirit of Masakado, the owner of the Katana Peruri's after, But he needs help finding his Kabuto helmet. He knows it's been taken to a nearby village named Futakawa but he can't get near it because of a sun goddess named Amaterasu. Without it, he can't rest in peace. Yae feels sorry for him. Before you leave, Masakado gives Yae a homing bazooka. Equipping Yae with her Bazooka and holding down the attack key will make your shots home in on multiple enemies. *Mitsuke - Return to the village of Mitsuke and go onto the first ship. Inside you'll find Mr. Goemon waiting for you. He tells you that the way to Fatakawa has been sealed off but there's an underground passage you can take. Only problem is there's a big boulder in the way. The only way to destroy the boulder is to hit the two buttons nearby simultaneously. - Leave the ship and exit via the east. Here, you'll find the buttons Mr. Goemon was talking about. Change to Yae, equip the bazooka then hold the attack button to use homing ammo ability. Continue to the outpost in the next area and do the same. - Go down through the passage then continue into the next area. Make your way SW to Futakawa and ignore the 2 people there for now. *Futakawa - Enter the house to the west to find Amaterasu's little brother, Susano. You learn that Amaterasu is mad at her brother for losing something precious of her's so she's gone and trapped herself up a cliff. The only way to get her out of there is to entertain her and make her laugh. Ebisu thinks he might be able to do it. - Return to the spot where you ignored two men. Change to Ebisu and perform the Bali Drill. Amaterasu the sun goddess will come out and Goemon learns how the villagers have been keeping the Kabuto as a ward for evil since the great battle. When she learns of how Masakado's spirit had been searching for it all these years so that he can finally rest, she agrees to give it back. Unfortunately, his little brother had lost it while playing around with it. He's dropped it in a pool and now a dragon's swallowed it. - BOSS: Haniwa Dragon To damage this boss, you have to knock the big Haniwa off the dragon. The dragon will attack in the same pattern repeatedly; jump over bridge, spray fire from the side and try to crush you with its head while each time calling for helpers. This first part takes a lot of long ranged attacks unless you want the battle to last a long time. After it gets to about half of its health, it will go berserk sweeping the bridge with fire, rolling its head across the bridge and showering you with bombs. You can dodge these atacks by hiding in the bottom right corner. I used Sasuke for the first half of the fight then Yae with her homing shots. - Now that you've retrieved Masakado's Kabuto, take it back to him in Maisaka. *Maisaka - Masakado thanks everyone and finally gets to rest in peace, leaving behind the Kusanagi's Sword. Just as Goemon thought they had it, Peruri appears and takes it from them. A passage opens up for Goemon and his companions to go after him. Chance to record your progress: Yes / No - 6.6 +-----------------------------------------------+ | | | Chapter 6 | | | | Hide & Seek with the Seven Deities of Fortune | | | +-----------------------------------------------+ - Go right to catch up with Peruri. You find out he's collecting the 3 Weapons of the Heavens to take over Japan. Being fed up with Goemon and his friends, he destroys the bridge so that they can't follow him. Yae suggests they head to the nearby village of Fujikawa to find a way across. *Fujikawa - Go west into the village then enter through the wooden gates to meet Echizennokami. He tells you that rumours have it the Seven Deities of Fortune live in a mansion nearby. If they go speak to them politely, they might help and grant their wish to cross the broken bridge. - Head to the area in the west to find the mansion. If you speak with a man in one of the houses, you learn that it's good manners to knock 4 times so, using your stylus, knock on the circle on the door 4 times quickly. - One of the deities, Ebisu the Deity of Wealth appears. You learn that his power is too weak to grant Goemon's wish at the moment and so requires them to gather the Seven Deity Tamas together first. The deity already has one but the rest are scattered outside of town and you have to go find them. Before everyone leaves, the deity gives Ebisu the ability to break gas. To do this, equip him with his Shuriken then hold the attack key and release. - Exit the through the south of the village and use Ebisu's new ability on the circle to lower the bridge. Cross over and into the area. *Okasaki - Make your way onto the bridge with the octopus sign. Take the exit to the right first to find an old man meditating under waterfall. He doesn't hear you so, you have to catch his attention. Climb up the ladder then float to the right. Rub the Tengu pot and a rope with appear. Climb up the rope and jump onto the bright yellow rock to the left. Use the stylus again to stop the water from coming out. Now jump back down. - The Deity of Longevity is not happy to be disturbed but, hearing Goemon and his friends explain what they were trying to do, he agrees to lend them his Tama. But first, you must fix the waterfall again. Once you've done that, jump back down to get the Tama. - Return to the octopus bridge and go down the left exit into a bamboo area. Here you must do a quick slash motion with your stylus wherever you see some sparkling bamboo. The Deity of Elegance is hiding in the bamboo in the SW corner of the map. At first she doesn't hand it over because Ebisu calls her an old woman but, thanks to Sasuke referring to her as a beautiful woman, she hands it over. - Go back to the octopus bridge and use the pig bridge to the south like you did before. Go into the next area. *Miya - Climb down the ladder to the right of the red gate you just came through and use Goemon to pull out the bottom block. Use your stylus to rub the statue without a hat and the Guardian Deity will appear. - After you get the Tama, go SW to blow up the boulder with Sasuke then follow the new path NW. Go past the area with scarecrows to find a fireball spouting statue. Here you must use Sasuke to throw bombs into its mouth. Do this 10 times and you'll rescue another Deity of Fortune who was trapped inside. - Return to where you blew up the boulder and follow the other path SW. You'll reach a temple. Go inside to do some Japanese calligraphy with your stylus. *Yokkaichi - You will be writing 3 Hiragana characters, 'te' in the left room, 'i' in the middle room you enter and 'ho' in the right room. 'ho' is the hardest to do even for Japanese players due to the recognition system and is also the first character you must complete to solve this puzzle. So, head into the right room first and complete it. What you have to do here is finish the character within 4 strokes in the following order. (1)| ----- <=(2) | | <=(4) | ----- <=(3) | _| | | \ | ----- So, following the given template and my little diagram above... (1) Vertical stroke from top to bottom. (2) Top horizontal stroke from left to right. (3) Middle horizontal stroke again, from left to right. (4) Start from the middle of stroke 2, down through stroke 3 then finally the curve to finish it off. Try to keep your stylus within the template. This may take a few tries and if you make a mistake, an orange box will appear so that you have to start again. Once you successfully complete a character, an orange swirl will appear. Now go into the left room to complete 'te' and then the 'i' in the middle room. These two Kana characters must be done in one stroke starting from the left. Once you've completed the Kana characters in the order of 'ho' 'te' 'i', Hotei Deity will appear and give you another Tama. Just one more to go. *Miya - Exit the temple and return to the spot where you found the statue without a hat. Go into the next area to the east and make your way up to find the last deity (checkout the JP ASCII smilies). *Kuwana - The deity will ask you if you are free (Yes/No). Answer yes then get ready to play a game of "hit the mole". You must hit the deity around 80 times within the time limit before an orange box will appear letting you know you've won. After a bit more fun with chatroom style text, you receive the last Tama. Make your way back to Fujikawa to hand them in to the deity Ebisu. *Fujikawa - Knock on the door 4 times and Ebisu will appear again. After handing over the Tamas, Ebisu sets them in action and you can now cross over to the other side of the bridge. Make your way back to the broken bridge and a flying ship will carry Goemon and his friends across to Akasaka. *Akasaka - Enter and you'll have the opportunity to save. This dungeon is like a giant kitchen. For the first part, it's probably best to use Sasuke for his speed and size. Time your crossing so that you don't get pounded and jump a lot when you do cross so that you don't get stuck down. If you get stuck in between containers, equip with the balloons and jump out. Continue on, bursting the inflated puddings and using them to float up. - Second area you have to jump onto the bread and run forward fast so that you don't get chopped up. Make use of Sasuke's balloons here. - Third area you have to be careful when you propel yourself up as there are enemies standing on every platform. For this part, I propelled Yae up to clear the platforms using her bazooka first then I sent Sasuke up with his balloons. - BOSS: Fake Peruri When he's in close range, he'll attack with canonballs and bullets. After you hit him for a while, he'll fly away and launch either an array of canonballs or bullets. If he launches canonballs, all you have to do is stand in the centre to avoid them. For bullets, there will be an opening for you to stand. To damage him, jump up and hit him when he's in close range. I used Goemon for this. - The boss seemed too easy to Goemon and his friends. Turns out it was a fake Peruri and it was one of his robots. Now he really wants all 3 Weapons of the Heavens so that he can ressurect Tengu, a great weapon to help him rule Japan. - BOSS: Taisanba DS Now you get to use Goemon Impact again. This time in the sunset. This fight's fairly hard as Taisanba keeps jumping from place to place. To deal the greatest damage to him, hit the lower right button when he's swimming close to you to pick him up. Then use the bottom middle button to er, headbutt him... Or just punch him. When he throws things at you, you can either guard against them using the lower left button or use the top middle button to shoot them if they are mini cannonballs. Now and then, he will try to suck you into a whirlpool. Just keep hitting punch to hit him and stop it. And so, Peruri goes off to the capital to get the final Weapons of the Heavens, the Magatama and complete his giant battle machine. Goemon and his friends make haste. Chance to record your progress: Yes / No - 6.7 +------------------+ | | | Chapter 7 | | | | The Great Tengu | | Admiral Peruri | | | +------------------+ - Make your way to the snow filled town of Sakanoshita. On you way there, you'll come across a slope with a giant snowball rolling down. To climb up, make use of Ebisu's Bali Drill technique. Go up a few steps then drill yourself into the ground to avoid the snowball. Jump back up and repeat. In the next area, ignore the guards and go on. *Sakanoshita - If you speak to the female customer in the shop, you'll learn that the local wealthy merchant, Daifuku has locked the doors of his mansion using locks that are in the shape of his daughters face. Ask around and you'll learn that the merchant's three "beautiful" daughters are famous in town and have gone missing for a while. - Exit the town through the southern area's SE exit. * Mount Tsuchi - Fight your way through the enemies until you find the third daughter in the SW corner. Poke her with your stylus and remember her face. Now return to town. *Sakanoshita - In the southern area of town, go west to find a pair of double doors. Go inside and you'll find a wall with a big face. Use your stylus to rearrange it so that it looks like the third daughter you found in the snow. The pieces will lock itself into place once they're in a certain position. After you have all pieces in the correct positions, the face will be animated and a pair of doors will open. *Minakuchi - Enter the mansion and go into the room to the right of the old man. Do the same again and rearrange the face to look like the third daughter. - Again, enter the new area and jump up the wall to get past the blockade of snow women. Continue through the areas until you find a piece of pink clothing in a lake to the SE. Touch it with your stylus to find the second daughter. Remember her face. - Return to the room next to the old man and rearrange it to look like the second daughter. Now go through the new path, cross the bridge and arrive at the Capital. *Capital - The Capital is filled with shops including a clothes shop. Take the first exit north and you'll find the two delivery men that you came across earlier. The two who were carrying a giant Tengu head. It turns out they're working for the foreigner Peruri and the head's going to be part of his ultimate weapon. - Before you enter, you can go into the magistrate's building to the right where you'll meet the Kinemon again. It turns out he's on the case about the Tengus too. Goemon and his friends report what they've found out about Peruri so far and then he tells them to bring him in for judgement. - Go in through the mechanical doors to find Peruri put the finishing touch to his giant battle machine and gloat over it. He's also got a hold of all 3 Weapons of the Heavens now, the last one being the oldest daughter of Daifuku. - Go to the left area to find the daughter unconcious. Poke her to wake her up and you'll learn the Magatama's hidden in her face. She guesses Peruri's now headed for the fortress of Ootsu, north of her father's mansion which means more face arranging fun. Remember her face and return to the mansion. Rearrange the face and enter the fortress. *Ootsu - For the first area, you use your stylus to open fans. They close fairly quick so be sure to jump fast. You may also use your stylus to hold down lids so that the fishes can shoot any more canonballs. - In the second area you have to poke the spikey Darumans so that when you fling yourself up, you don't get hit. Watchout for spinning tops as you get towards the top. - Third area you can shake containers that are used in Buddhist temples to foretell your fortune. A wooden stick will appear and different things happen depending on what appears on the stick. For example, if "great misfortune" appears, a gold plate will fall on you so be ready to dodge it! When that happens, don't jump on the stick as it'll retract very fast. You DON'T have to shake them as Sasuke can jump across the gaps very easily but you'll have to at the end where the stick propels you upwards. - Fourth area you meet the containers again but this time, nothing happens when a stick pops out. What you have to do here is stand Sasuke with his balloons again on top of the yellow container. Shake the container and wait until a gold stick appears and propels you into the air. DO NOT move forward if it's a brown stick as you won't be able to make it. Even when you get a gold stick, first test how fast you can float forward. If you can only float forward slowly then, it's not good enough. Wait for a better gold stick. - BOSS: Peruri His attacks will be similar to the fake Peruri. At long range, he'll attack with a rain of canonballs. Again, you can avoid them easily by standing in the middle. Close range, he will shoot bullets at you that'll burst into flames, a few consecutive canonballs and later fire wheels that skid across the ground. Once his health bar is low enough, he'll start hovering in the center shooting fire wheels only; one that skids across the ground and one that bounces. - After defeating Peruri, Goemon gets the Magatama and brings him to Kinemon. *Magistrate's Office - Peruri tries to argue that he wasn't doing anything wrong and that a Japanese person named Sakura promised him that Japan would open its doors to foreign trade if he gathered the Weeapons of the Heavens. But Kinemon decides to punish him for what he has done anything, using the weak and trying to cause chaos. Announcing that Goemon and Ebisumaru's name is cleared, Goemon hands over the Magatama over to Kinemon to return to the Daifuku's daughter. Just as Kinemon was going to close the case, Peruri recognises the Sakura blossoms flowing in the air and claims the magistrate Kinemon is the Sakura he's working for. Kinemon reveals his intentions to merge the Weapons of the Heavens with the giant battle machine so that he can rule over Japan and then disappears. Fuming with rage, Goemon and his friends head to Edo after Kinemon. Chance to record your progress: Yes / No - 6.8 +---------------------------+ | | | Final Chapter | | | | Decisive Battle! | | The Great Edo Castle | | | +---------------------------+ - To return to Edo quickly, go to the southern area of the Capital and speak to the man smoking in the SE. Select the first destination to the right to travel back. *Edo - After learning from the Feudal Lord that Kiemon's taken over the castle, Goemon and his friends leave to get it back. Head on up pass the knocked out guards into the castle. *Edo Castle - First area is straight forward as all you have to do is run forward killing off enemies. Little purple enemies will come lean out from the walls here and there. - Second area you pretty much do what you done earlier in Ootsu. Poke the Darumans so that they retract their spikes then propel yourself up using the stylus on the noses. - Third area you have to first jump onto the arrow before firing yourself using your stylus. - Fourth area is again nothing new and is similar to just before you fought the fake Peruri earlier. - Fifth and sixth area you need to watchout for the pouncing red enemies. They jump at you as soon as you get near them. When you're on the swinging platforms, don't forget to unequip the balloons from Sasuke. Otherwise, he'll fall off while the platform swings. Once you get to the bridge with logs and flags, you'll have to move swiftly too because the logs fall once you stand on them for too long. What I done was equip Sasuke with bombs and used them to take out the enemies quick while I ran forward across bridge. - Seventh area, you play with bows again before you finally reach Kinemon. He doesn't giveup even when he's given the chance and is keen on ruling the country. - BOSS: Kinemon He starts off with a Sakura leaves attack. Be careful not to get hit. Afterwards, his little helpers will launch some bouncy canonballs at you. Hitting them will launch them towards Kinemon and cause damage. After 1/4 of his health is down, the floor boards will become loose. Standing on them for too long will make you fall underground. When that happens, you have to kill the flying towel-like creatures to blow a hole open in the floor before you can fling yourself back up. Once he has about 1/4 health left, his helpers will throw red canonballs. You CAN'T hit these as they'll explode into flames. If you need health, kill his little helpers when they appear at the bottom of the screen. After you defeat him, he'll activate his battle machine with the Weapons of the Heavens and you'll have an opportunity to save. - BOSS: Tenguri King Another fun Goemon Impact fight. When Tenguri is on the ground, he can block, punch and hit you with his wings. He can also summon flying objects from the air to hit you. During this time, I would hit the Right Punch button twice followed by a Left Punch button once. Afterwards, he'll fly into the air to kick you. At this point, time your Left Punch so that you counter his kick and knock him to the ground. He'll then try to smack you with his nose so use Guard. Now keep on punching him. After he gets to half of his health, he'll try to hover over your head so that he can give you a good spin before slamming you into the ground. He'll also shoot lots of multicoloured canonballs at you so try and avoid both these attacks. During the whole fight, there will be other Tengu followers running around near your controller. Use the D-Pad to collect the items they're carrying to help you get some quick Specials into the fight. - After you win, Goemon and his friends will take the place as magistrate to take judgement on Kinemon and Peruri. Kinemon will admit to making Peruri gather the three Weapons of the Heavens and go onto say how he was born in a poor family. Being a position where can't improve things in the country, he wanted to become the ruling Shogun of the whole country so that he could improve things. Still without regrets, Kinemon vows to take over the country next time before he gets escorted into jail. - As for Peruri, he came to Japan as a diplomat so that his country could conduct trade. But as he arrived with his black ships, everyone ran off as soon as they saw them. It was then that Kinemon appeared, posing as someone named Sakura, promising to help open up the country for trade if Peruri helps him. Peruri pleads that he too was just a victim but as he used Mr. Goemon, he too must receive punishment but Goemon promises to speak with the Feudal Lord to open up the country for trade. After that, Peruri gets taken away. - Next up, the Mr. Goemon Trio are forgiven for stealing the temple mirror and are told to work hard to rebuild their poor village. And so the case of the Tengus end. Thanks to Goemon, Sasuke, Yae and Ebisumaru, Kinemon's plans were destroyed and peace returns once again to Edo. It's also time to say goodbye to our story teller, Utamaru Katsura! You've now beat the game and have the chance to save (Yes/No). After saving the game, you will have the extra options of playing the boss fights or Goemon Impact battles again consecutively. This is the third option down from the main menu. You will also have a sound test under Options. =============== 7.0 Side Quests =============== 7.1 Money Pouches ----------------- At the start of the game, your money pouch can only hold up to 200 Ryos but, in chapter 3, Dokutaro will give you a new money pouch and upgrade the capacity to 300 Ryos. Other money pouch sizes are also available by helping Dokutaro on his journey to the Capital and doing the following in order: - 500 Ryos, Yellow Pouch Meet Dokutaro on the second floor of the Ejiri inn. Notice the stairs aren't blocked like the other inns. - 700 Ryos, Blue Pouch Get it in Fukuroi. To get there, travel to Mitsuke and exit via the left. Use Ebisu's Bali Drill to go up the path with the rolling drum into the next area to find an old house. Inside you'll find Dokutaro again being offered a generous amount of food by the old lady. But Yae senses a demonic aura from her. So go to the old temple you visited and talk to the Buddhist there. He'll give you a charm to scare off the demon. Return to the house where Dokutaro is, equip the charm then use it. The old lady sees it and reverts to her demonic Yamanba form. She was going to fatten Dokutaro up and eat him. After she leaves, Dokutaro snaps out of the demon's control and thanks Goemon and his friends. - 999 Ryos, Red Pouch Meet Dokutaro outside the Capital on the Sanjou bridge. He'll thank Goemon and his friends once again for saving him from the Yamanba.
